Original Colored Pencil Drawing
This drawing is based on my adventure to New York City in 2024 with my Dad and sister, Margaret. We decided to go on this last minute adventure to celebrate her birthday and it did not disappoint. They ice skated in Rockefeller, we saw Sunset Boulevard, had the best hot chocolate and mini donuts in Bryant Park, and celebrated with a magical birthday dinner at Sardis’.
It felt like a very merry holiday. New York, at Christmas time, is one of those special experiences that feels just like the movies.
When walking around capturing references this one felt so different with it being a nighttime scene. I loved all of the night light glare, as well as all of the colors coming from every direction with car lights and Christmas lights reflecting everywhere. I typically draw daytime scenes so this was a fun challenge to take on, especially with such an iconic place like Radio City Music Hall.
This drawing took a total of 75 hours and 85 colored pencils to complete. I also added two easter eggs, feel free to find them yourself!
This drawing has become even more special to me because this was where I was right before I got engaged to my now husband, where he got down on one knee in Rockefeller Center.
This drawing is a reminder of how magical New York is during the holidays. Rather than only having that feeling while popping in a movie or going there yourself, this could be hanging on your walls to bring you that warm feeling everyday.
