16×20”
Original Colored Pencil Drawing
This drawing was from my first experience going to Venice Italy. I was able to explore the city with my sister, Margaret, and my parents. Everywhere we went we were met with beautiful alleyways, canals, and corridors that opened up into a whole new world of wonder and color.
While exploring, this scene in particular really caught my eye. It felt so calm and tranquil, as well as the quintessential vision of what Venice is. The warm glow of the sun capturing the aqua blues in the water as well as the harsh shadows really set the scene.
I completed this drawing while at my residential stay at Borgo Santo Pietro, a luxury hotel in Tuscany. I had the honor of drawing in front of guests, as well as explaining in real time what my drawing process is like. In total this drawing took over 100 hours and 92 colored pencils to create. I also turned the Roman numerals on the far left into my birthday as a fun creative easter egg.
This drawing has the ability of allowing you to experience the canals of Venice right within your own home. It is as if you are looking outside of your very own Venetian window.
